Nick Curran Signs With Delta Groove Music Family
We don’t normally pay too much attention to label signings ’round these parts…we’ll just wait for the artist’s new album, thank you! But the addition of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Nick Curran to the Delta Groove Music family is a coup worth writing home about.
The Austin, Texas-based Curran has frequently jumped around the musical map with recordings that have spotlighted the talented fretburner’s affinity for blues music, R&B, roots-rock, and rockabilly. After recording four stellar albums during the early 2000s with his band the Nitelifes, and earning himself a W.C. Handy Award for “Best New Artist Debut,” Curran jumped ship and hooked up with the Fabulous Thunderbirds for their 2005 album, Painted On. Curran later applied his reckless energy to punk rock with his late-00s band Deguello.
But now Curran has come back around to the sort of Texas-styled blues and rockin’ R&B that he made his reputation with, and Delta Groove’s insurgent imprint Eclecto Groove could be a ready-made homestead for the restless artist. Curran has put together a red-hot band, so expect to hear Reform School Girl, the new album from Nick Curran & the Lowlifes, sometime in January 2010.
